Learning should be for everyone.
Cut a Fig started with a simple idea: creative learning should feel accessible, welcoming, and within reach.
Founded by writer and marketer Elise Aguilar and built with a love for creativity, writing, culture, and community, Cut a Fig was created because she noticed a gap. There are so many talented people who want to learn something new, develop their craft, or simply make something—but workshops and learning spaces can often feel expensive, intimidating, or out of reach.
Elise wanted to make something different.
So she started Cut a Fig: an affordable and inclusive learning community where people can explore their creativity, learn practical skills, and meet others who are figuring things out too.
From writing and poetry to art, culture, content, and everything in between, our workshops are designed to be:
- Affordable
- Beginner-friendly
- Genuinely useful
You don't need a degree, a fancy portfolio, or years of experience to join.
You just need to be curious.

Real reviews from our attendees
The workshop was a really great experience because it is truly conducive to learning in a way that self-expression is promoted. I like how the exercises are not the traditional type of approach and instead focus on awareness and creativity.
Thank you so much for making my first workshop in Cut a Fig a great one! I really appreciate how open you were during the workshop, which made things less scary as a newbie. I also appreciate the tools given after the workshop since it truly motivates you to just love writing and reading.
It's very heartwarming to finally have a talk with people who share the same language as me! I wish you all the warmest things in life and I wish Cut a Fig all the best!
Love how it was high level yet very practical + real life scenarios/applications since Elise was a content manager and director herself. Love the whole vibe and the attendees too. Felt like we were just friends hanging out.
Great class for beginners. I learned a lot. Tarot reading has always intimidated me because I couldn't understand it even with the guide books, but Ms. Maha made it so easy to understand. The practice reading was also helpful. I love how it was facilitated — thank you for the opportunity!
Thank you so much for everything you shared and taught us during our session. I learned a lot about Content Writing and what to expect if ever I'll be pursuing it as a side hustle. I also truly enjoyed our free-flowing discussion during our Q&As and how you engaged with the attendees.
Super fun!!! The activities were relevant to the workshop. Elise facilitated the workshop really well and I learned a lot of the nitty-gritty stuff about technicalities of writing a poem (yay!) I'm a little bit more confident now to try experimenting.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FUN WRITING EXERCISES DURING THE WORKSHOP!! Not only did I enjoy it, but it helped me learn the concepts better. SUPER WORTH THE TIME allotted for the weekend, thanks for making it worthwhile.
